Nieuws over ome Harry 22 januari 2010

In de week van 15 januari 2010 ontvingen we van Robyn uit Australie nieuwe foto's van ome Harry.
Ook heb ik contact gehad met het tehuis waar hij op dit moment verblijft, en heb ook met hem zelf gesproken zover dat mogelijk was.
Verder heeft Francien uit Oss geprobeerd contact met ome Harry te krijgen, maar hij was op dat moment niet aanspreekbaar, er kwam alleen wat gebrom uit.
Ook hebben we weer een mail gehad van Tonny, waarvan een gedeelte in dit bericht verwerkt is.
De foto's zijn onder dit bericht geplaatst.

In mijn telefoongesprek met een medewerker van het tehuis werd mij het volgende medegedeeld: ome Harry is dementerend, hij roept naar zijn moeder en naar tante Mien.
Ook blijkt hij veel Nederlands te spreken.
Hij is erg vermagerd en zwak, maar eet volgens het tehuis redelijk.
Als hij uit bed moet, wordt hij er uit gehaald door een constructie om hem te tillen, waarschijnlijk omdat hij te zwak is.
Na het gesprek met de medewerker heb ik ome Harry zelf aan de lijn gehad, maar ik kon er geen redelijk gesprek mee voeren, het kwam bij hem niet aan.
Niet in het Nederlans noch in het Engels.
Zo, jullie zijn weer op de hoogte, het zijn geen prettige berichten, maar laten we hopen dat hij niet al te veel meer hoeft te lijden op zijn leeftijd.

Nieuws over ome Harry.

Op dinsdag 1 december 2009 heeft Tonny, ome Harry opgehaald in het tehuis waar hij verbleef, en hem naar Atherton gebracht.
Hierna volgt het complete mailtje wat we van Tonny ontvingen.

 

Hallo Riki and Toon,I have a change of address for my father who is now in "Carinya" the home for the aged in Atherton, the full address is below.

 Jim, Barbara, Rick and myself are very pleased that dad is finely with us as he had requested to be near his family and no longer wanted to be anywhere in Cairns  It took nearly a full year to find a place for him.  Carinya is a very popular place and both Barbara and Tony work there.  They will be able to see him every day and so will I.  dad is looking forward to seeing Jim at Christmas.

 Dad has settled in very well at Carinya after we picked him up by car from Cairns.  He was very alert and happy all the way to Atherton. 

All the staff of the nursing wing came to see him on arrival and had a chat with him.  Dad shook hands with everyone, he was cheeky and had all of them laughing.  He enjoyed his lunch and we were so happy that he actually ate which he used to refuse in Glenmead. He was mainly on a liquid diet in glenmead.

We purchased dad a very nice T V and a whole wardrobe of new clothes for most of his old ones were only fit for the tip.

 We take it one day at a time as dad is 95, frail and very thin but with a lot of love and the wonderful caring staff at Carinya he has a good chance. I know that dad will have a very peaceful Christmas now and he will also see his fifth generation granddaughter for the first time. 

Dear Riki and Toon I thank you very much for all the beautiful cards that dad has received from you and also from other family which I have no address for :Sjef and Greet van de Vossenberg, Gary and David,  Jan en Gina,Francien en Ad , Ria en Frans Sanders, Evert en Hennie, FV Orsouw-Bastings and Jos en Simone. 

Could I please impose upon you to forward this email to the above names of my fathers change of address, and I sincerely thank you again and everyone for the wonderful love and well wishes that was sent to dad.

De stamoudste van nu is natuurlijk ome Harry in Australie, vandaar dat wij zijn pagina die al op de site stond hebben gehandhaafd, maar wel hebben verzet naar het hoofd van de familie.

En deze jongeling bereikt in 2009 de respectabele leeftijd van:  95 jaren!!!!

Ome Harry,

It’s a long time ago but we want to wish you and of course your beloved ones all the best for 2009 and hope you will recover and will still be able to do nice things.

During this cold period in Holland (it is freezing – 20 degrees at night) we think a lot of Australia and the time we spend together, we even looked at all the pictures last weekend.

So instead of sending you this greetings we would rather come over to say hello!

I hope you enjoy all this fanmail and be with us for a long time.

Van uit het koude Nuenen wensen wij u veel gezondheid.
Met ons gaat alles goed. Janny is nog hetzelfde als vroeger, en met onze zoon Jordy en zijn vrouw Carina loopt alles naar wens.
Ze wonen in Frankrijk en runnen daar een restaurant aan de voet van de Mont Ventoux, een bekende berg in de Alpen.

Here is a little letter from Reusel in Holland.

How are you doing? We hope well?

With us is everything fine. Our two sons are married last year. We put some photo's in this letter so you can see how happy they are. And of course Ria and I are happy too.

Arno is married with a beautiful Brazilian girl, named Patricia. The wedding was in Manaus, in the middle of the primeval forest. You can only reach the city by airplane or boot. We have done the trip by airplane, almost 20 hours flying from Holland. There are no roads to the city. We spent an week in Brazil with the lovely couple and our new family in law. The people are very kindly. It was really great to be there.

Ewout is married with a beautiful Hollands girl from Tilburg. And they are living now in Gilze-Rijen, in the neighbourhood of Tilburg. They have bought there a house. We spent almost 6 month for doing up the old house. But now it is a fine place to live there and they are happy with the house. The wedding was just before Christmas day.

This year will be important for me, because this year I am going retiring. So, no longer working for any boss, just helping my wife with the housekeeping and doing some repair on the house.

You are now the eldest guy from the Family Hurkmans, and we are proud on you,uncle Harry. We hope that you stay for another couple of years with us.

Hallo ome Harry,

We hebben gehoord dat jij misschien in het ziekenhuis op internet kunt kijken en daarom sturen we een paar foto's van ons met een klein briefje. We hopendat het langzaam weer wat beter gaat met jouw en dat je weer van de kleine dingen kunt genieten. Wat zou het fijn zijn als je hier in Holland of in Duitsland zou wonen, er zou beslist iedere dag bezoek zijn, want iedereen leeft met jouw mee. We denken allemaal veel aan jouw en zijn benieuwd of jij je nog aan ons herinnerd?
Met tante Zus en Piet en jouw zus "Netje" ben je een paar keer bij ons in Duitsland geweest. Ik weet nog dat het erg vrolijk was en je bibberde van de kou. Het was dan ook een heel verschil met Australië, en Volker heeft jouw nog een groen leren jasje gegeven en je hebt het niet meer uitgetrokken.
Onze Stefan was toen ongeveer 14 of 15 en in dit jaar is hij 34 geworden. Hij heeft nou zelf een klein gezin en woont maar een paar kilometer van ons vandaan. Met Volker en mij gaat het goed, je ziet het op de foto's "Hollands welvaren". Maar de hoofdzaak is gezond te zijn, daar kun jij nou ook een liedje van zingen, denk ik.
Ome Harry, veel liefs en hartelijke groeten van hier uit, als we weten dat het lukt met de mails sturen we er vaker een.
Hou je taai en probeer je humor te blijven houden.
